About ITOP
The California Workforce Investment Board was awarded an Innovative Alignment Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy. The purpose of the project is to work with federal, state and community agencies and organizations to help young people with disabilities make the transition into the workforce. The project is named Improving Transition Outcomes for Youth with Disabilities or ITOP for short. ITOP’s goals are to complete the statewide assessment of the existing youth service infrastructure utilizing multilevel stakeholder input and map resources at the state and local levels, and to develop a cross-agency multi-year state plan to improve transition outcomes for youth with disabilities.
The ITOP Grant Components Are:
- Resource mapping to assess the delivery of youth services in light of evidence-based transition operating principles and identification of available assets and resources within the state;
- Development, implementation and evaluation of a multi-year state plan to enhance transitional outcomes for youth with disabilities;
- Local pilot project demonstrations to determine ways in which youth with disabilities can obtain transition services through community partnerships and intermediary organizations; and
- Demonstration of the long-term sustainability of grant objectives through collaboration with federal, state and local public-sector resources.
